Youth of Promise is an alliance team of organizations made up of Youth and Adults dedicated to engaging youth as partners, leaders and resources in fulfilling the FIVE Promises for other young people.

These are the five promises...

  1. Caring adults...ongoing relationships with caring adults lives - parents, mentors, tutors, or coaches

  2. Safe Places...safe places with structured activities during nonschool hours.

3, Healthy Start....a healthy start and future.

  1. Marketable skills...marketable skills such as literacy through effective education

  2. Opportunities to serve.....opportunities to give back to the community through community service.
  3. Description:
We are a service organization of young people aged 14 to 18. Some of our members have continued to participate with younger youth into their college careers. WE have college age mentors and adult supervisors who oversee our activities and help us develop the five promises. We were organized under Utah's Promise and the National Americas Promise. We work closely with other Davis County service organizations to provide service and help improve the community in which we live. At the present time we are working on getting a memorial built at the Utah State University Botanical center in Kaysville, Utah.

    History:
Americas promise was founded after the Presidents summit for America's future in April 27-29, 1997 in Philadelphia. Presidents Clinton, Bush, Carter, and Ford with First Lady Nancy Reagan representing her husband, challenged the nation to make youth a national priority. Their call to action included a commitment on the part of the nation to fulfill the five promises. In October 1997 the state of Utah responded to General Colon Powells call for service and launched its own effort. Utah's promise is a grassroots effort that mobilizes volunteers to improve local communities. In September 1999, the Davis County identified itself as a community of Promise and further continued the pursuit of delivering the five promises to the children of Davis County by forming the Youth of Promise.
