Operation Lifesaver is a nationwide, non-profit education and awareness program that is dedicated to ending collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights-of-way. We do presentations across the state speaking to all ages, from pre-schoolers to retired railroad "buffs". Our goal is to create awareness of the dangers of the railroads and to get ND citizens to Look, Listen and Live!
History:
In 1972, a concerned railroad employee, working with the support of many Idaho communities, established a statewide Operation Lifesaver program. During the first year of this program, fatalities were considerably reduced. Encouraged by these results, Nebraska started a statewide program. Again, there were significant reductions. Now Operation Lifesaver is an international program and is supported by national and state organizations, as well as the railroads.
