The mission of the Self-Sufficiency Center is to prepare and empower individuals to become economically self-sufficient. This is accomplished through providing training in life skills, professional work techniques, realistic business and technical training.
Description:
The Self-Sufficiency Center operates 3 programs. Clothing & Connections helps men and women make the transition into the workforce by providing professional career wear and first impressions training. Progressive Office Experience provides a safe and secure training environment for individuals who have little or no work experience, but desire to become self-sufficient. In this setting, the client becomes familiar with working in an office setting, while being held to normal job expectations. Entrepreneurship for Single Parents & Minorities encourages and empowers individuals to improve their lives through realistic business training. All of these programs aim to meet the larger mission of the Self-Sufficiency Center.
History:
Entrepreneurship for Single Parents & Minorities began in 1992. In 1999, the Self-Sufficiency Program was created and supported by the Fargo Housing & Redevelopment Authority, and added the Clothing & Connections program. Progressive Office Experience formally Temporary Work Training was added in 2000. The name changed to Self-Sufficiency Center in 2004. On February 1, 2008 the Self-Sufficiency Center became its own public charity and continues to partner with the Fargo Housing & Redevelopment Authority.
