Project YES's mission is to provide leadership opportunities to young people through arts and service learning.
Description:
Project YES offers four principle programs. The Youth Center, Art in the Community, LYFTS, and the Service-Learning Partnership programs seek to empower young people to envision social change and participate in activities that positively impact their lives and their communities. Project YES serves young people ages 5-18 through positive youth development programming during non-school hours. All programs are provided free of charge and are available to all interested youth.
History:
Project YES (Youth Envisioning Social change) began in Boston in 1991 as a pilot program through Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. Led by graduate students Beth Krensky and Carol MacNeil, the program supported youth in using the arts as a vehicle to make their voices heard about important social issues in their lives. When the pilot ended, it was the youth who served as the driving force in developing the project into an organization. In 1994, Project YES relocated to Colorado, became incorporated in 1995, and earned its 501(c)(3) status in 1997.
