The American Diabetes Association's mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. To fulfill our mission, the American Diabetes Association funds research, publishes scientific findings, provides information and other services to people with diabetes, their families, health professionals and the public. The Association is also actively involved in advocating for scientific research and for the rights of people with diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy to all people affected by diabetes. ADA is a leader in Research: Since its inception the ADA has funded more than $350 million in research aimed at preventing and curing diabetes. ADA is a leader in Information: The ADA focuses on targeted outreach programs to increase awareness about the seriousness of diabetes in the community and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, specifically focusing on at risk groups. ADA is a leader in Advocacy: ADA is fighting for increased research funding at the federal and state levels. This includes advocating for an end to discrimination against people with diabetes and improving access to and quality of health care for people with diabetes. In 2006 the ADA raised more than $210 million nationally, with almost 80% of every dollar raised funding our vital programs.

Founded in 1940 as a scientific and medical organization, we are celebrating our 67th year of serving people with diabetes.
