Capital Rainbowfest, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) charitable and educational organization committed to celebrating the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex communities in central New Jersey.
Description:
The main activity of Capital Rainbowfest, Inc. is producing the Capital Rainbowfest - a GLBTI PRIDE festival held every September in downtown Trenton that is now the third largest PRIDE festival in New Jersey. In addition, Capital Rainbowfest, Inc. is responsible for the World AIDS Day commemoration in Trenton and is working both on providing college scholarship and is developing plans for a GLBTI community services center in Trenton.
History:
Capital Rainbowfest grew from a community picnic first started by the Trenton Gay and Lesbian Civic Association(TGLCA) in 1995. In 2002, TGLCA was approached by Jersey Pride, Inc. (JPI), the producers of Jersey PRIDE in Asbury Park, to reorganize the picnic as Capital Rainbowfest. After co-producing the event with JPI in 2002 and 2003, TGLCA assumed sole responsibility in 2004. Capital Rainbowfest, Inc. was created in December 2004 as its own separate corporation to produce the festival and expand the educational offerings. Capital Rainbowfest, Inc. received its non-profit status in 2006.
