New Jersey SHARES is a 501 (C)(3)non-profit organization charged with a mission to provide assistance to individuals and families living in New Jersey who are in need of temporary help in paying their energy bills.
Description:
New Jersey SHARES’ (NJS) mission is to assist New Jersey’s working poor, fixed and middle income families who are unable to pay their electric and gas utility bills due to a temporary financial crisis. The NJS program helps our neighbors across the state to avoid the tragedies associated with the loss of utility service. NJS provides meaningful assistance to households in crisis across the state. NJS partners with more than 157 community-based social service agencies and state legislative district offices offering 213 intake sites. NJS also provides bill payment assistance to customers of the United Water Company, and community outreach and client services for Verizon NJ’s Communications Lifeline Program. NJS is committed to preventing tragedies by providing assistance, education and viable solutions to New Jersey families in crisis.
History:
Since our inception in 1998, NJS has provided assistance to more than 132,000 individuals and families in crisis. NJS is the only statewide organization providing energy bill payment assistance to families and individuals that do not qualify for state or federal programs.
