Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of children by promoting their self-esteem, expanding their awareness of life's opportunities, and providing them with guidance and support through long-term, one-to-one mentoring with caring adults.
Description:
Out goal is to extend the BBBS-Mercer reach deeper into our community so that we can provide a mentor for every child who needs and wants one. We serve children ages 6-14, mainly from single-parent homes. Volunteer mentors & children may participate in one of the following programs: TRADITIONAL COMMUNITY-BASED: Volunteers (Bigs) provide Littles with one-on-one time and attention in their communities, typically two to four times a month. During these unstructured outings, Bigs provide opportunities for Littles to enjoy the companionship of a caring adult outside of the home and school in various sporting, cultural, educational and other activities. SCHOOL-BASED: School-based mentoring is a way for busy individuals to volunteer and for companies to give back to the community. In the school-based program, companies typically allow their employees to volunteer one hour of their work week during the academic school year, by providing Littles with one-on-one time and attention in their school. (These include our High School & College based programs)
History:
For over 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has worked to improve the general health, lives and futures of thousands of underserved children.
