Empowering Lives, Inviting Justice, Alleviating Hunger- That's Our Promise!

Description:
The Hungry of New Brunswick

History:
We started in 1989 when three local churches decided to join together to form a soup kitchen. Churches have been our central volunteer base ever since-preparing and serving meals. In 1997 we began a culinary arts training program, teaching clients cooking basics and helping them become ready for jobs in the food service industry for example, restaurants, cafeterias, and catering. We also operate a client-staffed catering business and a micro-enterprise program, by helping people start their own small businesses. How we got our name is from the Old Testament, the prophet Elijah encountered a widow in Zarephath. He asked her for food and water, and when she told him how little she had, he replied, “ If you share with me, I promise you you’ll never be hungry.” That is our philosophy and as long as we all continue to share, no one in out community needs to be hungry.
