The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. We fund programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies.
Description:
The March of Dimes conducts all of its own fundraising campaigns, including the oldest and best walking event--WalkAmerica--to support its mission activities.
History:
The March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to find a cure for polio. When the Salk vaccine was found and in widespread use by 1955, the March of Dimes turned its attention to addressing other infant health problems.
