Friends of Davis International Center of Princeton University promotes international understanding by offering friendship and support to Princeton University's international graduate students, visiting scholars and their spouses. Our volunteer tutors and hosts offer a friendly setting in which international visitors can practice English and make new American and international friends.
Description:
The Friends sponsors three major programs, each focused on helping international visitors: Individual Conversation, Group Conversation, and Host Family. Individual Conversation offers the student and a tutor the chance to choose their own informal topics for conversation, as well as the place to meet--a cafe on campus, in town, the library. Sessions are once a week. Group Conversation meets on campus at Murray Dodge Hall on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tutors meet with small groups of international students, scholars and spouses to discuss topics prepared by the chair of the program, including readings, idioms, and pronunciation. Tutors can come one or both days. They learn as much from the students as the students do from them. Host Family Program matches up a host with an international student (and spouse and family) to pursue friendship through home visits, trips, phone calls, parties and other informal gatherings.
