While the children are awake, assist with fun activities such as reading, painting, singing, snack time, etc. While the children are sleeping, help the teachers organize the classrooms and prepare activities for when it's time to wake up. You can expect to be running around, smiling a lot, sitting on the floor, playing, talking in funny voices, hugging, & performing a little bit of cleaning as needed. Volunteers who are good around small children, patient, playful, creative, energetic and comfortable acting silly will get the most out of this experience. You must be 16 years old (unless accompanied by an adult) and be interviewed by our Volunteer Coordinator. If volunteering for more than 35 hours, you must pass a background check but ALL mentors must sign an "Affidavit of Good Moral Character." We have a dress code policy that does not permit visible tattoos or piercings. For your own safety, please wear close-toed shoes and comfy clothes. It is preferred that you call the Nursery and ask for Miss Dorothy prior to coming in the first time to volunteer. Please do not apply for this opportunity if needing court-appointed community service hours. The best time to volunteer is between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday as the center is closed on weekends. This opportunity is sponsored by: Orlando Day Nursery Association, Inc.
