Our mission is to build joyful community around public, private, and home schooled children with a free, innovative celebratory fitness and nutrition program, resonating with the child and with the child’s family. The goal is for the child to develop the love and habit of moving through space and to carry forward the power of muscular, nutritional and psychological well being.
Description: Marathon Kids® eleven-year-old, nationally recognized, copyrighted, trademarked, incremental school-based fitness program is a free 6-month running/walking, nutrition, and schoolyard gardening program aimed at helping kindergarten through fifth grade children develop enjoyable and sustainable fitness and nutrition habits. Over the course of the program, "Marathon Kids" are challenged to run/walk an accumulated total of 26.2 miles (in 1/4- to 1/2-mile increments) and eat 5 fruits and vegetables per day, 26 days of each month. These long-term goals are attainable, but challenging and meaningful, for active and sedentary children, alike. By empowering children, Marathon Kids® hopes to stave off the increasingly early onset of health-related diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes.
