THE MISSION of CROSSROADS: Community Partnership for Youth, Inc. is to prevent or reduce youth involvement with the juvenile justice system by fostering positive mentoring relationships between youth and volunteers.

Description:
CHILDREN are between the ages of 10 and 17. In 2006 there was an estimated 24,877 children referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department for various violations. Most of these kids are involved in non-violent offenses, which, without intervention, could lead to more serious offenses. Many of the children who become involved with the juvenile justice system suffer from low self-esteem, backgrounds of family strife, parental alcoholism, drug abuse, and physical and sexual abuse. One or both parents might be in prison, or sometimes children get involved with the “wrong crowd”.

THE PROGRAM provides positive role models to at-risk, pre-delinquent, or delinquent children. Volunteers serve as mentors in a one-to-one relationship and offer the guidance and direction that has been lacking in the lives of these children.

History:
HISTORY In response to concerns from the community about juvenile delinquency, CROSSROADS was founded in 1968 and attained its non-profit status in 1971. Since 1980, the agency has received partial funding from The United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast, becoming a full member agency in July of 1983. In 1995, the agency changed its name to CROSSROADS: Community Partnership for Youth, Inc. The name symbolizes the time in a child’s life that he or she must make choices.
