Our mission at Hoffman Academy is to establish a rigorous curriculum that seeks to invigorate, challenge, and motivate students. We are a Prospective International Baccalaureate School, which means we offer an international education that fosters understanding among young people around the world, enabling future generations to live more peacefully and productively than we do today.
Description: Hoffman Academy Middle School, located in the Northeast area of Houston, Texas. It houses seventh and eighth graders.Currently, we have a partnership with Houston A+, a grant which provides us with funds to incorporate art into the curriculum. Through a partnership with The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, our teachers are offered on-going training to develop the set courses involved in this process. Part of this grant, is money to set out on field trips that enrich our curriculum and motivate our students, while introducing them to the arts. In addition to this grant, our school has recently become a magnet school. Through our magnet school grant, we have been afforded the opportunity to apply for world school status. Our goal is to become an International Baccalaureate School by 2007. This program requires a rigorous curriculum designed to equip students with an international education. In turn, students will have a broader view of the world and their role as a citizen.
History: Our school was once a Recognized school. We now have an Acceptable status. Our African-American students are the sub-group with the lowest TAKS scores in the school. There are approximately 1,000 students in the school. The administration, teachers, and staff work very hard to create a positive learning environment and there are many wonderful things happening in the school. Still, there is a need for partnerships and volunteers to help communicate with and mentor students on our campus.
