Volunteering at SIRE is a very upbeat and rewarding experience. The clients will amaze and inspire you. Leaders groom, tack up and lead the horse in the 30-45 minute class. Sidewalkers walk beside and help the clients with balance and focus. You may even witness small miracles as the motion of the horse soothes and calms a rider with tight, tense muscles or a rider with autism learns to control and steer his horse through an obstacle course. SIRE has 3 locations: Hockley, Spring and Ft. Bend at Sienna Stables.
SIRE volunteers must be at least 14 years old and able to keep up with a walking and occasionally trotting horse. Sidewalkers need not have any previous horse experience. Leaders must have horse experience and pass a tryout. All volunteers must attend an Orientation and Training session.
