THE PROGRAM provides positive role models to youth who have been placed in a residential placement facility as part of their probation. Volunteers serve as mentors in a one-to-one relationship and offer guidance and direction that has been lacking in the lives of these youth as many times parents have "given up" on them and their mentor will be the only visitor they will see while in the facility. We have 7 different facilities volunteers can choose to mentor at including sites downtown, southwest Houston, west Houston, Katy, Cypress, and Clear Lake.
Once CROSSROADS receives the application; the agency calls references, completes a criminal background check, and schedules training & orientation. 1 hour a week is spent with the assigned youth, and a 1 year commitment is asked of volunteers. Minimum age of volunteers is 21.
