It is the mission of Camp Blodgett to provide youth of our community with an educational and recreational experience that promotes social responsibility, encourages academic success and supports development of a healthy self-esteem.
Description:
Camp Blodgett provides year-round programs to children living or going to school in Kent County. Summer camp has been one of those programs since 1921 and we have now added Camp Blodgett Club after school programs in numerous locations throughout the county, weekend Leadership Conferences in the winter and Camp Blodgett’s Young Leaders. All programs incorporate literacy, academic achievement, self-esteem and social responsibility to give children of limited means the knowledge, capability and desire to rise out of poverty.
History:
Camp Blodgett was established in 1921 when the Blodgett family donated land on Lake Michigan just south of Grand Haven. It initially served children living in the DA Blodgett Home for Children providing sunshine and fresh air and a respite from inner city life. Through the years the focus changed to provide support to economically underprivileged kids through year-round programs.
