The Humane Society is dedicated to the protection and care of all animals. We give voice to creatures who cannot speak for themselves. While we work with a wide variety of animals, including wildlife animals and farm animals, we focus the majority of our resources on promoting responsible and humane care of companion animals by their human owners. We do this by: -Promoting responsible pet care through public education and services
- Working to reduce unwanted pet populations
- Providing humane care to abandoned, injured or relinquished animals
-Finding homes for adoptable pets.

History:
The Humane Society has been around for over 120 years. We were organized by a group of citizens concerned for animals. Until 1949, the group operated out of donated office space, housing the animals in private homes and veterinarian clinics. In 1949, the first Humane Society shelter was built. This building housed the animals until it burned down in 1969. That year, in a virtual emergency due to the fire, the Society moved to its 7,000 square foot facility on Bristol Ave. Over the next 30 years, as the community grew, so did the pet population. Thanks to the generosity of the community, in February of 2001, the Society moved to our new 21,500 square foot facility on Wilson Dr.
