[ View Opportunities ]
Last updated on April 1, 2008

The Center provides tools, skills, and knowledge to develop environmentally-responsible, agriculturally-aware, citizens who actively participate in practices that preserve the integrity and sustainability of the nature world.

Description:
Free monthly e-newletters provide program information and variable hours. Newsletters are accessible at Lowell schools website under the centers web page.

The 87 acre School property adjoins the 61 acre Wege Foundation Natural Area, for the study of ecology, agriscience and the environment. Trails connect the two areas and both are used for education and sustainable land management. Habitats include oak forest, creek, swamp, Pine plantation, and native prairie. A log cabin, animal science building(Barn) and community garden are present.

Educational opportunities for school and community are provided year around. The trail system is open during daylight hours for foot traffic only(no motor vehicles, no bicycles, no hunting). Facility rental is available.

History:
The facility was developed in 2000 through a joint effort by Lowell Area Schools and the Lowell Community to preserve its natural and agricultural heritage. Joint partnership with Land Conservancy of West Michigan allows for effective land management and stewardship. Community partners have made donations to support community programming and education opportunities.
