As a K-12 school system...Our mission is to ensure that all students are educated, self-directed, and productive members of society!

From the Desk of Bernard Taylor, Jr. Ed.D., Superintendent of Grand Rapids Public Schools.

I am truly amazed at the revival that is taking place at GRPS!

There is a renewed hope, energy, and commitment to educational success unlike anything I've ever experienced due to the effectiveness of our instructional reforms, dedicated and compassionate school/learning facilities, and new public-private partnerships.

I hope that parents and students throughout the region take time to learn more about the changes, improvements, and new educational choices and opportunities offered by our district.

3 Early Childhood Centers
6 K-8 Schools

7 Alternative High Schools
17 Special Education Programs

History:
Grand Rapids Public Schools is a culturally diverse school system that currently educates just under 23,000 preschool through twelfth grade students. In existence for over 150 years, it is the third largest school district in Michigan.

Improving student achievement is the bottom line in our district. Our focus now and for the future is READING. We believe the better children can read, the more success they will experience as students and adults.

The Grand Rapids Public Schools has a strong, nationally certified early childhood program, is one of only two public schools districts in the nation to offer a PreK-12 Montessori program and is known for offering outstanding special education programs. Our high schools offer exceptional technology programs and compete regularly in national robotics and solar energy events.
