The Children's Assessment Center coordinates and facilitates expert multi-discplinary response intervention to child victims of suspected sexual abuse in a child-friendly environment that is supportive and safe.
Description:
The Children's Assessment Center is here to assess, support and assist child victims of suspected sexual abuse through expert, multidisciplinary response that is child-sensitive, supportive and safe. We also support and assist non-offending parents and family members. We collaborate with professionals and agencies who serve sexually abused children and their non-offending family members. We reduce trauma to child victims while providing the best possible assessment of fact and need. We recognize that awareness and education about child sexual abuse is essential to its prevention. We will become the pre-eminent resource in Kent County to professionals and the general public regarding sexual abuse of children.
History:
The Children's Assessment Center (CAC) opened in January of 1993 to serve children in Kent County for whom there is suspicion of sexual victimization. The CAC provides one coordinated, age-appropriate forensic interview for the reported sexual abuse of a child. Crisis intervention, support, and referral services are available for families from the initial investigation through the court process. The CAC provides all services at no cost to families. Since its opening, the CAC has worked to increase awareness with professionals in the community about the resources that the Center provides.
