Our Mission Statement: Neighbor helping neighbor live with dignigty and hope" Our vision is to assist people to better serve their self, family and community.
Description:
Community mentors volunteer to meet with an adult that needs assistance with any variety of needs. We provide trainings that cover what a mentor is, listening skills, strength based solution building, cultural awareness, boundary setting, confidentiality and money management. Persons needing mentoring generally come from the North West Grand Rapids neighborhood. Volunteers work on planning goals, a plan of action and weekly communication to affirm positive direction.
History:
Steepletown is a collaborative of three neighborhood churches: The Basilica of St. Adalberts, St. Mary's and St. James Catholic Churches. Programs have been provided to support families in this neighborhood since 1997. At this time there are programs at Steepletown such as English as a Second Language, Native American Services, Catholic Social Services, and Telamon Corporation. There are programs such as Al-non, an Adult Literacy Program, Women's Circle and the Women's Support Group.
