 The Farm is underway! The west side of Blandford's property is now home to a fully operational and educational farm led by a group of seven inner-city youth coming from diverse backgrounds. We have finally broken ground with the help of five horse-drawn plows, launching Blandford Nature Center & Mixed Greens into our first farming season. We are excited to share our experience with you! Please join us in our growing by helping with one of the following farm activities...
SOIL AMENDMENT & COMPOST Help us prepare our newly plowed ground by laying compost manure. Come prepared to get dirty. Eight volunteers per shift are needed. Monday, April 21st-Tuesday, April 22nd 9:00am-12:00pm
DEER FENCE CONSTRUCTION Help us protect our new crops from visiting scavengers! Construction will run for two days; eight volunteers per shift are required. Friday, April 25th- Saturday, April 26th 9:00am-12:00pm 1:00pm-5:00pm

LAYING PLASTIC & MULCH The final step before planting begins! Approximately six volunteers per shift. Monday, May 5th 9:00am-12:00pm 1:00pm-5:00pm
WEEDING & PLANTING Plant Lima beans and melons after weeding the grounds. At least six volunteers are needed. Saturday, June 14th 9:00am-12:00pm VOLUNTEER FARM SERVICE DAYS Beginning June 14th, Blandford Nature Center Volunteer Farm Service Days will run every Saturday from 9:00am-12:00pm. June 14th, 21st, 28th July 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th August 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th LIMITED SPACE IS AVAILABLE! The Farm is accessible by car at 3143 Milo Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 and through Blandford's trails. For directions, please visit our reception desk. No previous farming knowledge necessary. Come dressed to get dirty! Volunteers of all ages are welcome (children under 11 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). This is a perfect opportunity for groups!
