Arbor Circle promotes healthy development by providing quality mental health, substance abuse, prevention and family development services in a caring partnership with our diverse community. The Bridge and Homeless Youth Services involves youth and young adults, along with their communities and the people who are important to them, in the process of building the assets they need to live productive, healthy and independent lives.
Description:
The Bridge provides temporary, safe shelter services as a way to help young people ages 10 to 17 and their families. The Bridge strongly believes that young people and their families can responsibly help themselves by identifying solutions that may improve their situations. The Bridge provides support and encouragement through counseling and educational groups. Individual, group, and family counseling is offered when deemed helpful, and staff is always available for direction and guidance. Homeless Youth Services is an independent living program designed to assist young adults ages 16 through 20 who do not have permanent stable housing. The program offers weekly life skills groups that focus on such things as getting and keeping a job and an apartment, budgeting, parenting skills and stress management to aide in healthy decision-making. Each client is assigned a case manager who is dedicated to offering assistance and support to the client in their efforts to live independently. Services include crisis intervention, referrals to transitional or other housing, assistance in apartment and job hunting, ongoing counseling services and educational tutoring or support. Arbor Circle Homeless Youth Services also provides assistance in obtaining necessary medical, mental health, financial, and other support services.
History:
Homeless Youth Services began in 1987 as the Advisory Center for Teens. The Advisory Center for Teens became part of the Arbor Circle Corporation in 1996 when it became known as Homeless Youth Services. HYS expanded to include an additional satellite office to service Ottawa County in 2001.
