The Hand's WOODS Foundation is seeking volunteers to help in the clean-up of an 8 acre woodlot located behind Hand Middle School in Lancaster. The woodlot is being used by School District of Lancaster students to increase their knowledge in biology and environmental sciences. Our goal for the day is to remove tires and trash. We will begin to chip and mulch selected fallen trees. We are also hoping to begin the removal of invasive plant species with the assistance of Millersville students. Our needs are for individuals willing to bring and operate their personal chain saws, people to drag branches to the chipper and people to wheel barrow the mulch to areas within the woodlot. With volunteer support, the Hand Middle School students will work along with community volunteers and witness the community's concern regarding habitat and come to an understanding that the Lancaster community supports environmental education and habitat restoration projects.
The Foundation suggests that volunteers wear long pants and long sleeved shirts for their protection. We will briefly describe and show the invasive plants to be removed and how to do it. This opportunity is sponsored by: Hand's WOODS Foundation
