Description:
The Davis Family Support Center Inc., dba Family Connection Center, is one of twelve Family Support Centers throughout the state of Utah. The center is a private non-profit agency that has been serving Davis County residents since 1985. The Family Connection Center has three locations throughout the County including: Clearfield, Layton, and Bountiful. Of the families our Centers assist, 95% are living at moderate to low poverty levels, putting them at high risk for dysfunctional relationships and domestic violence. Our Center offers a variety of services such as crisis/respite nursery, individual and family therapy, parenting skills classes, food bank services, emergency shelter and financial assistance, services to the homeless, transitional housing, Uniting Neighbors, and Member Organized Resource Exchange Program.
History:
The Family Connection Center was started with a federal grant written by the Division of Child and Family Services in 1984. Our Center was an outreach of the Family Support Center based in Ogden. The first FCC location was in a little house where Lowes Hardware store is now, off Antelope drive in Layton. Within a few years of opening, and because of the growing need for crisis/respite services, the Center relocated to Clearfield. In 1995 a second building was added because of the increase in services being provided. Not long after the second building was finished, the County approached our Center and asked us to take over the Davis County Food Bank. The Center accepted and relocated the Food Bank, which was being run out of the Farmington Library, to Angel Street in Layton. The Center leased three units for food storage. In October of 2001 the Center purchased a third FCC location in Bountiful to extend crisis/respite nursery services to the residents at the south end of the County. In July of 2003 the Center, with the help of Kevin Garn and the County, purchased a 15,000 square foot building in Layton to house the Food Bank. This was necessary to accommodate the 700 to 800 families a month seeking a three to five day food supply. The Center continues to expand services in an effort to help individuals on the road to becoming self-sufficient.
