Description:
The Dale Turner Family YMCA is part of the larger Greater Seattle area YMCA family. We provide opportunities for all people of all socio-economic, religious and racial backgrounds to grow into their fullest potential in mind, body and spirit. We place a special emphasis upon nurturing the young.

History:
The YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association)was founded in London, England in 1844. The organization began as a Judeo-Christian outreach movement to young working men who moved to London looking for work during the Industrial Revolution. To counter the negative influences of drunkeness and temptations of city life, the YMCA began as a movement based in provided safe lodgings and christian community centered on Bible Study and the practice of healthy christian living.

The YMCA came to the United States of America in 1851. YMCA's spread fast and were soon serving boys and older men as well as young men. After WWI, women and girls became an active part of the YMCA and today over half of all YMCA members and staff are women.

Our journey in Seattle began in 1876 as Dexter Horton and a group of 14 citizens founded the YMCA of Greater Seattle. Today, the association serves more than 164,000 people annually, including nearly 100,000 age 18 and under, primarily in King County and south Snohomish County. The YMCA offers many programs in schools, churches, community centers as well as YMCA owned facilities.
