Our mission statement: As an expression of God's love, provide hope through quality human service. Lutheran Child and Family Service (LCFS)has a rich tradition dating back to 1899. We are an agency committed to provide the highest quality service to the children, families and individuals we serve.
Description:
LCFS is a not-for-profit corporation that provides a range of services for children and families. Programs incorporate prevention, intervention and treatment components to provide a continuum of care. Services LCFS provides: foster care, family preservation, family life education, counseling, teen parent services, residential placement and adoption. Volunteers make a valuable contribution by bringing to the agency specialized skills and interests not available through paid staff. Volunteers offer opportunities for supportive relationships and individualized attention to clients that serve to enhance the client's treatment plan. Volunteers also make a valuable contribution to the agency by interpreting the agency's programs and services to their friends and to the community. LCFS has offices in Michigan in Warren, Oak Park, Detroit, Adrian, Grand Rapids and Bay City
History:
LCFS in 1899 originated in the Saginaw Valley area of Michigan and began providing homes for orphaned children. The Bay City Lutheran Home was constructed in 1929. In 1947 LCFS arrived in Detroit and Grand Rapids in 1965.
