The mission of Jameson Camp is to enrich the lives of Indiana youth in need, by inspiring them to discover their strengths.
Description:
Jameson Camp serves over 350 children every year through traditional camping experiences, a Youth Leadership program and specialized and year-round programming. These children are referred by community professionals for a variety of reasons including: a need for improved social skills and peer interactions, positive role models, enhanced self-esteem as well as ADD, ADHD and other behavioral concerns. Many of our camper's families also face economic challenges with an average gross household income of $17,455 last year, for a family of four. Along with traditional programs Jameson Camp also offers a specialized camp, Tataya Mato, for children affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. It is the only camp of it's kind in the state of Indiana.
History:
Jameson Camp celebrates its 78th birthday this summer. Jameson started as a "fresh air" camp for children at risk of contracting Tuberculosis. As Tuberculosis became less of a concern, the camp began focusing on other health related issues, such as asthma, nutrition, weight loss, HIV/AIDS and emotional and behavioral issues. Today the camp serves at-risk children ages 7-17 through traditional residential camp, Youth Leadership and year-round follow-up programs and a specialty camp for children affected or infected with HIV/AIDS. The goal of the camp is reach these children at an early age and to serve them over a period of many years.
