It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America, and our subsidiary Learning for Life (LFL), to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime in achieving their full potential. The values we strive to instill are based on those found in the Scout Oath and Law. Scouting and LFL curriculums facilitate meaningful mentoring (parenting) and communications between youth, parents, community leaders, and community organizations to help youth adopt these values and life skills. Activities are age and ability appropriate as well as fun and interesting.

The purpose of the Gamehaven Council is to administer the Scouting and LFL programs; to assist community organizations with recruitment and training of volunteer leaders; to gather resources to implement, and to promote the programs to parents, youth and the general community in the seven counties of Southeastern Minnesota.

The Gamehaven Council accomplishes its purpose by making the Scouting programs available to all youth in cooperation with community organizations that have compatible goals. Organizations (our collaborative partners) include educational, religious, civic, fraternal, business, labor and governmental bodies that promote service to others, the worth of individuals, the importance of family life, personal fitness, democratic principles, and duty to God and country.

Description:
Youth Development through Improved Family Bonding and Social Stability and Competency, and Increased Meaningful Opportunities for Community Involvement for youth and families.

To accomplish these activities requires involvement at three levels:

  • Group activities - participants work with and rely on other group members and adult leaders to realize success.
  • Family programs - children work with their parents or guardians (and siblings) to achieve their objectives. This has the desired effect of bringing families closer together and strengthening their social, emotional and inter-personal ties. For the individual this model helps to create a strong feeling of accomplishment, self worth, and personal satisfaction which is necessary for good self-esteem, and promotes success and personal development.
  • Scouting has been the nation’s leader for 91 years in promoting service to others. At every age and level of Scouting and LFL participants are required to complete service projects that benefit others. This lesson becomes instilled, as demonstrated by the number of alumni who have made service-to-others part of their way of life.

  • History:
The Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910 and exists today to serve others by helping instill values in young people and preparing them to make ethical choices during their lifetime and achieve their full potential. Community-based organizations receive national charters to use the Scouting program as part of their own youth work in the Gamehaven Council. These have goals compatible with those of the BSA and include religious, educational, civic, fraternal, business, and labor groups, governments, corporations, professional associations, and citizens’ groups.
