We are a local volunteer charitable organization building homes for members of our community who are in need. Houses are built using as much volunteer labor and donated material as possible. These houses are then sold to qualifying families at no profit and no interest.
Description:
An affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, we are locally governed by citizens of the greater Las Cruces area. Volunteer members and our family partners do the actual construction work. Family partners are chosen on the basis of need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner. Families living in sub-standard, over-crowded conditions, with a record of gainful employment, are candidates for partnership. Each partner family must contribute 500 hours of construction labor and productive work for the organization. In turn, Habitat provides a no interest mortgage to the family based on their ability to pay. Mortgage payments are recycled into new homes for other families in need.
History:
MVHFH has been building homes in Las Cruces since 1987. We have been at our current location at 720 N Santa Fe St. since 1996. We have completed 61 homes to date in Las Cruces. All projects are supported from funds raised locally. Every nail is driven with the hammer of a volunteer. Come, help us to provide a hand up, not a handout.
