The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults enhances lives by supporting, educating and connecting young adults, and their loved ones, affected by cancer.

Description:
Young adults exude boundless optimism, idealism, and a sense of indestructibility. Cancer, however, robs them of this perspective. They face the complex practical issues of independence, personal finance, and education or career interruption as well as taxing emotional concerns such as dating, fertility, and hopelessness. Our programs address areas of cancer support, advocacy, and education specific to young adults dealing with cancer.

The first and only support service of its kind, our Comprehensive Support Program for Young Adults Affected by Cancer (CSP) offers a support network that addresses the unique needs of this population, including: education and prevention; support and networking groups; a survival guide, "No Way It Can't Be: A Guidebook for Young Adults Facing Cancer;" survivors and loved ones networks; a discussion forum; college scholarships; and a speakers bureau.

History:
The Ulman Cancer Fund For Young Adults was founded to provide support programs, education, and resources, free of charge, to benefit young adults, their families and friends, who are affected by cancer, and to promote awareness and prevention of cancer.

Along with his family, Doug Ulman, established this organization in 1997 after he was diagnosed with cancer and realized the need for such an organization. He is currently a three-time cancer survivor. First, he experienced chondrosarcoma, (He had a malignant tumor and a portion of a rib removed from his back) and then he was diagnosed with melanoma, twice. Doug graduated from Brown University, and received a grant from The Echoing Green Foundation to direct The Ulman Cancer Fund For Young Adults on a full time basis for two years.
