The Connecticut Radio Information System provides electronic reading services for blind and print-handicapped individuals throughout the state of Connecticut.
Description:
CRIS radio provides readings of daily newspapers and current magazines to people who, because of vision loss or other disability, are unable to read printed material. CRIS programming is provided free of charge. We also provide specially tuned radios to our listeners at no cost. Our daily programming includes articles from the Courant, USA Today, New York Times, Journal Inquirer, New Britain Herald, New Haven Register, Connecticut Post and others. Local, regional, and national magazines covering a variety of topics are also included in our programming. Volunteer involvement is vital to our mission. Volunteers read articles, operate control boards, edit audio, serve as speakers at civic organizations, help with general office tasks, and serve on our Board of Directors.
History:
The Connecticut Radio Information System, Inc. began operation in 1979 with a one-hour broadcast to the Hartford area. We now broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from studios in Danbury, Norwich, Trumbull, and New Haven and our broadcast center in Windsor.
