| Last updated on May 8, 2008 |
“Enable the children of world, with their different languages, origins and outlooks, to meet each year on the field of competition to practice friendship and understanding and to help secure world peace through the Olympic Ideals.”
Description:
The International Children’s Games is the only global, youth athletic event that combines sports, educational programs and peace-motivated cultural exchanges. The 42nd International Children’s Games (the “San Francisco Games”) is endorsed by the International Olympic Committee and will showcase San Francisco on the global stage. The San Francisco Games will be organized and managed by SFICG 2008 (“SFICG”) a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation managed by a Board of Directors made up of a group of dedicated Bay Area community leaders.
History:
Having seen his own childhood disrupted by World War II, Yugoslavian Professor Metod Klemenc had a vision to promote peace and friendship through sports to the world’s youth. He organized the first International Children’s Games in 1968 with the participation of teams from nine European cities. Through 2006, over 30,000 children ages 12 to 15 have participated, representing over 200 cities and 60 countries. The International Children’s Games event is the world’s largest international multi-sport youth games and is a recognized member of the International Olympic Committee.
