Canal Alliance is a community-based organization that prepares people to participate fully in economic, educational and political systems, and to be leaders, so that Marin may benefit from its diversity and be a more equitable county.
Description:
Canal Alliance Programs
Canal Alliance is a community-based organization that works to transform community and create global change on a local level. There are four pillars to our vision of community transformation: Health and Social Justice, Economic Vitality, Civic Leadership, and Educational Equity.
Health and Social Justice
Canal Alliance strives to achieve Health and Social Justice for community members by encouraging them to advocate on their own behalf and by improving access to services.
Economic Vitality
Canal Alliance also teaches skills so that our community members can achieve financial independence and stability, as well as participate more fully in the local and global economy.
Civic Leadership
Canal Alliance believes in empowering people to become civic leaders and participate fully in the social and economic environment in which they live.
Educational Equity
When it comes to taking full advantage of the education opportunities available, not all youth are starting from the same point. Our holistic approach addresses students' academic, personal, and social needs so that they are able to fully take advantage of all the educational opportunities available to them.
History:
San Rafael Canal Ministry and Canal Community Alliance merged in January, 2005, to form Canal Alliance. Both agencies have been helping people improve the quality of their lives since 1981. The San Rafael Canal area is the most densely populated section of Marin County, housing over 12,000 people within 2.5 square-miles. Many of the residents are low-income, immigrant, working families from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Over the years, as the community has grown, CA has expanded its services to meet current needs. CA responds to approximately 25,000 requests for services every year.
