Homeward Bound of Marin is the county's primary provider of shelter and services for homeless adults and families. Services include counseling, classes in financial literacy and other "life skills," job training at the Fresh Starts Culinary Academy and other programs, and more.
Description:
Homeward Bound operates 10 inter-related residential programs ranging from emergency to transitional to permanent supportive housing for homeless families and adults, including veterans, seniors and people with persistent mental illness. Our job-training programs include Fresh Starts Culinary Academy, which runs as a partnership with the Marin County Office of Education's Regional Occupation Program, as well as apprenticeships in landscaping, building maintenance, and more. Our social enterprise programs, Fresh Starts Catering and production of chocolate Halo Truffles, provide work experience to those building employment skills.
History:
Homeward Bound was founded in 1974 with a single family shelter in San Rafael. Through partnerships with various government and community organizations, our programs have expanded and adjusted in an effort to meet the needs of Marin homeless families and adults.
