Marin Advocates for Children is dedicated to preventing the abuse and advocating for the best interest of the children.
Description:
Marin Advocates for Children is the independent voice for victims of child abuse and neglect, and the leading not-for-profit agency preventing child abuse in Marin county. We provide critical child advocate and child abuse prevention services through our Court Appointed Special Advocates program-CASA and Child Abuse Prevention Council-CAPC.
History:
In 1983 our Marin CASA program emerged from a collaboration of representatives from clergy, law, education, Department of Social Services, League of Women Voters, Junior League, National Council of Jewish Women, legislators, Foster Parent Association and other community members. In 1997 the CASA board, staff and volunteers became concerned that without a child abuse prevention council in place, there would be no entity to assume responsibility for educating the community about child abuse and neglect. The board brought on the Child Abuse Prevention Council as its second program and adopted Marin Advocates for Children-MAC as the new name for its expanded mission. By expanding the mission to include child abuse prevention, MAC has been able to engage the community in providing a safety-net for children and families by reducing the isolation which is so often the cause of abuse and neglect.
