We are a 510 3 (c) nonprofit organization that educates the public about living with domestic rabbits as household companions. We rescue rabbits facing euthanasia at animal shelters and foster, rehabilitate and re-home these loving animals. We are one of the only resources for special needs or abused rabbits who need time and medical attention to heal.

Our expertise is eleventh hour rescues and the foster care, rehabilitation and re-homing of injured, neglected and abused rabbits.

Description:
SaveABunny is deeply committed to humane education as well as saving lives. We work closely with animal shelters to both rescue rabbits facing euthanasia, as well as provide training to staff and the general public on the unique care and needs of companion rabbits as treasured indoor companions.

According to the ASPCA, domestic rabbits are the third most frequently euthanized animals at animal shelters behind cats and dogs. Many rabbits learn their names, love to play with toys and can be trained to use a litter box. They form deep bonds with their human guardians and enjoy being an integral part of the family. Sadly, unlike cats and dogs, rabbits are one of the only companion animals in our culture that can still be legally eaten, and slaughtered for their meat or fur. Additionally, each year, especially at Easter, record numbers of rabbits are bought at pet stores and then abandoned at shelters when the novelty wears off. Each year SaveABunny rescues between a hundred and two hundred rabbits who would otherwise be euthanized.

Beyond the obvious enjoyment you'll get from meeting and snuggling the rabbits, you'll gain satisfaction in realizing the direct impact and contribution you make on behalf of the animals and the community of Marin County.

History:
SaveABunny was founded in 1999 to assist with the growing problem of rabbit overpopulation at shelters.

In the past 10 years, rabbit care has been modernized to include spay/neuter and indoor living like a pampered house cat. Outdoor hutch living is now considered old-fashioned,improper care.

Through our outreach, education, merchandise sales, volunteer activities and community partnerships we address the general lack of knowledge of how to properly care for and live with companion rabbits, as well as provide opportunities to experience how loving and special companions rabbits can be, as well as why adopting a rescued rabbit, rather than buying a rabbit, is the most compassionate and cost-effective choice you can make.

We have a creative and talented group of volunteers and would love to meet you!
