To promote the independence and well-being of senior citizens in Marin County by providing a comprehensive, integrated program of services and activities to enhance their quality of life and to provide paratransit services for the elderly and disabled persons.

Description:
The recently remodeled Whistlestop Cafe offers the opportunity for seniors to enjoy deliciously prepared, healthy meals in a social setting where entertainment and educational programs are regularly provided. The cafe has been expanded to include a salad bar, burgers, sandwiches, pizza and soup of the day as well the cooked meal of the day. The cafe is open to the public. Any person aged 60 and older receives a discount on the food.
Whistlestop Wheels offers rides to Marin's elderly and disabled. We provide approximately 110,000 trips a year in 48 wheelchair-equipped buses, taking Marin's seniors and persons of all ages with disabilities to medical appointments, shopping and visits to family & friends ? in short, anywhere they wish to go. We provide over 200,000 rides a year to people in wheelchairs. Without our rides, many of these people would be isolated. Because of us, our clients remain active community members.

Wherever Marin seniors need help Whistlestop tries to be there. We offer multicultural support, including one-on-one assistance in several languages on issues such as housing, health care, legal assistance and social security. We have health education and disaster preparedness programs for seniors. We deliver library books to the homebound. Give tax preparedness assistance, counsel on health insurance, offer senior peer counseling and help seniors attain US Citizenship. We offer classes for seniors striving to learn English. There are exercise groups and computer classes. The list goes on, ever expanding.
