The Vision of the Marin City Community Development Corporation (MCCDC) is to see Marin City become an incorporated city with thriving healthy families that are self-sufficient. With that in mind, the mission of the MCCDC is to empower and improve the quality of life of Marin City residents by implementing comprehensive planning, cultural, and economic development programs, and to preserve it's diverse culture.
History:
Founded in the tradition of the community development movement, the MCCDC was organized in 1979 to give voice, power, and opportunity to Marin City's poor Black families whose elders had fled the political and economic oppression of the South to work in the wartime shipyards of the 1940's. With the principles of local control, accountability, social justice and equity as its overarching values, the Development Corporation was birthed from the desire of local residents to stave off the pressures of gentrification and to create a community where future generations of African Americans could live, work, and prosper.
