History:
MAPS began in 1977 through the caring and insightful vision of Dawn Degenhardt of Houlton, Maine. Degenhardt, an adoptive mother of nine and a pioneer group of other adoptive parents founded MAPS on the principle that "all children deserve and need their own family". MAPS has grown into an international humanitarian-aid organization offering programs domestically as well as in 11 different international countries.
