Gardiner Main Street's vision is a vibrant downtown with unique shops, restaurants, cool apartments in upper floors and a diverse population. Our mission is to "encourage its downtown's economic and cultural vitality through concentrated efforts of organization, design, promotion and economic revitalization, while protecting Gardiner's unique historic character".

Description:
The Promotions Committee organizes 3 annual special events: Celebrate Gardiner Festival in June, Reading Rumpus-A Maine Children's Book Festival in Sept. and Home for the Holidays during the holiday season. They also create retail events and introduce co-operative marketing campaigns for downtown businesses. The Design Committee recently created a voluntary design guidelines brochure to assist in decision making for building improvements. They are also working on downtown beautification projects and public art downtown. The Economic Restructuring Committee recruits new businesses and supports the current businesses. The Organization Committee is responsible for the funding of the organization and the recruitment and on-going training for the organization's volunteers.

History:
For the past six years Gardiner Main Street, a non-profit organization, has been revitalizing downtown Gardiner using the National Main Street approach: Design, Promotions, Economic Restructuring and Organization. There is one full-time Executive
Director and the rest are ALL VOLUNTEERS. More than 35 regular volunteers make up all the committees and the Board of Directors. Some of the volunteers have been involved since the beginning but new volunteers are always WELCOME and needed as the organization takes on more and more projects. We are an award winning Main Street with very dedicated, talented, enthusiastic and HAPPY volunteers working together to achieve our vision.
