Last updated on August 24, 2008

Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women is a nationwide 24/7 toll-free crisis line for victims of domestic abuse. We offer support, referral, and information to victims, survivors and their loved ones who call to our crisis line. In addition we offer direct services in the form of emergency shelter, clothing, court advocacy and transportation costs to victims. We strive to end domestic abuse in the lives of all victims.

Description:
Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women's offers support, referral, and information to victims of intimate partner violence and others concerned about friends and family members who may be victims via our toll-free 24/7 crisis line. In addition we offer court advocacy to those in need of obtaining protective orders, shelter and support groups (in limited areas).
The Helpline also advocates for the development of a comprehensive, coordinated approach to reducing all intimate partner violence, and works toward facilitating enforcement of the laws, policies, and procedures applicable to intimate partner violence. Although the bulk of our experience and knowledge comes from working with male victims whose needs have traditionally not been addressed by other agencies, we are dedicated to promoting awareness to the public, law enforcement and social service agencies, of the need to define intimate partner violence as blight that happens to men and women in both heterosexual ans same-sex relationships.

History:
Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men was incorporated in October of 2000 as a 24/7 toll free confidential line. Since that time call volume to the helpline has gone from 40 calls monthly to over 375 calls monthly.
We held educational conferences in 2001-2003 that brought in speakers from across the country and the globe. We have been featured as an innovative new program in the National Crime Prevention Council's publication, "50 Strategies To Prevent Violence Domestic Crimes" (2003) and interviewed for numerous newspaper articles on intimate partner violence. In 2004 our Director co-authored a peer review article that is to be published in the Journal of Family Violence titled, "Characteristics of Callers to the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men."
