The mission of Mano en Mano is "to build a strong community in Downeast Maine by working with diverse populations to provide affordable housing and educational opportunities, remove barriers to health and social services, and to advocate for social justice."
Description:
Mano en Mano’s programs include an After School Program for local Latino students, a health education workshop series, and Spanish language and cultural competency classes for local area businesses and organizations, We serve as the local contact for Maine Migrant Health Program to provide agricultural workers with access to health/dental care. We also provide information and referrals to Latino workers looking for social services, educational opportunities, legal aid, and health care.
History:
Mano en Mano began after a series of community wide potlucks that aimed to bring together local community members with the newly arrived Latino community. Mano en Mano was than established as a collaboration within the community to provide services to the Latino community in the areas of education, advocacy, and referral services to social services. We also serve the local community through Spanish class and cultural competency workshops.
