It is the mission of Eastern Agency on Aging to be the best source of information, options, and services for people as they grow older: To listen carefully, respect individual choice and value independence. To be responsive to the changing needs of older people, families and their communities.
Description:
Eastern Agency on Aging is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3)organization managed by professional staff. We have a volunteer board of directors and advisory committee, which is representative of seniors in our four county area.
When challenges of aging or caregiving leave you or a family member uncertain of where to turn or how to access needed resources, our community service consultants and caregiver specialists are here to guide you. Consultants help with insurance, Medicare, MaineCare (Medicaid), Social Security and information about many programs and services which can help you. Caregiver specialists and Partner's in Caring can help you with information and support to assist you through the challenges of caregiving for a family member.
Eastern Agency on Aging also provides supportive services in selected senior housing facilities. Each has a unique set of services and eligibility requirements. Residents may receive assistance with personal care, homemaking, transportation, meals and activities. The sites are Freeses in Bangor, Merry Gardens Estates in Camden and Stearns in Millinocket.
The largest program, Meals for Me, provides nutritionally balanced, hot noontime meals for persons 60 and over at 36 dining rooms located throughout Washington, Hancock, Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties. Hot meals are also delivered to homebound individuals who are unable to cook a full meal for themselves.
Our programs succeed, in large part, because of our 700 volunteers. Together,we are here when you, your family, or neighbors need assistance.
