The Maine Public Broadcasting Network's mission is to engage the minds and enrich the lives of the people of our state through public television and radio broadcasting, educational outreach and Web-based information and services. MPBN is a non-profit 501(c)3 registered in the State of Maine. It is largely supported by a statewide network of members, businesses, foundations and other private donors.
Description:
MPBN's television stations offer the best of national PBS programs as well as local productions such as Made in Maine, MaineWatch and Quest: Investigating Our World. Likewise, the radio stations of MPBN provide national favorites as well as locally produced news and music programs such as Maine Things Considered, and classical, folk and jazz music. Educational outreach activities include teacher training workshops and community based programs for children that promote the development of learning skills. MPBN's Web site contains information about television and radio programs, educational resources including lesson plans for educators as well as links to state and national resources.
History:
The Maine Public Broadcasting Network was formed in 1992 through the merger of two independently operated public broadcasting organizations located in Bangor and Lewiston. MPBN has offices and broadcasting studios in Bangor, Lewiston, Portland and a satellite news office at the Statehouse in Augusta.
