Freeport Community Services is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a forum for assessing community needs; facilitate programs designed to address defined needs; provide information and referral concerning social services and other human needs; help people access services; provide direct services when appropriate including the operation of a food pantry in order to provide free emergency food for people who need it in our communities and to provide opportunities for community members to support and participate as volunteers in a variety of activities to benefit the community.
Description:
Freeport Community Services offers a food pantry, information and referral services, camp and recreation scholarship funds for "at risk" children, a family life support group, holiday helpline program (through November and December), a medical loan closet, and transportation to medical appointments for those who need it in the Freeport and Pownal areas.
History:
Freeport Community Services started out with 15 volunteers taking turns answering a community "help phone" that was set up above a resident's garage at 12 East Street in Freeport. We are now located in our own building at 53 Depot Street in Freeport. FCS is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization of professionals and volunteers committed to strengthening the local community by helping families achieve independence established with the philosophy of neighbor helping neighbor. We help residents of Freeport and Pownal during short-term crises and in times of need and may extend long-term support as resources allow.
