Catholic Charities Maine is an organization of the Diocese of Portland that actualizes the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church. We are a community of conscience that witnesses to the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by providing services, advocacy, education and spirituality to people of all faiths and beliefs who are most vulnerable, poor, or disenfranchised.

Description:
Catholic Charities Maine is the only agency in Maine authorized to administer the federal program that resettles refugees in this country. Realizing that many of these clients arrive in Maine with few possessions, and often have suffered trauma and loss of family members, our Refugee and Immigration staff work with them to access housing, English skills, jobs, and medical and mental health services that will allow them to begin a new life here and become part of the community in which they live.

History:
Since 1966, Catholic Charities Maine has dedicated itself to creating, administering, and advocating for programs and services that reach out and meet the critical human service needs of our state. In establishing our priorities, we place special emphasis on helping those struggling with the burden of poverty. Our professionally trained staff and over 1,000 volunteers help individuals from birth through old age overcome obstacles in their lives that threaten their self-sufficiency. Last year, we provided services to over 27,000 individuals in Maine, and touched the lives of countless others through our advocacy and convening efforts.
