Hospice of Southern Maine's mission is to improve the quality of life at end of life. We provide comprehensive hospice services to terminally ill individuals and their families, including physical, emotional and spiritual services in the patient's own home,the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House or other appropriate setting.

Description:
Hospice of Southern Maine delivers the following services:

  • Medical and nursing care for distressful symptoms of advanced illness, with an emphasis on maximum comfort and minimum pain;
  • Medication for symptom control and pain management;
  • Appropriate medical equipment and supplies;
  • Home health aide services;
  • Non-medical Volunteer support to provide comfort and assistance;
  • Education, social work, and counseling services;
  • Pastoral care services;
  • Other specific treatments and/or therapies as needed; and
  • Bereavement services for families for 1 year.

  • History:
    Hospice of Southern Maine was established through the merger of Hope Garden of York County and Horizon House of Cumberland County; each organization shared the vision of constructing the area's first freestanding residential hospice facility. Hospice of Southern Maine (HSM) seeks to fill the gaps in end-of-life care in southern Maine by providing the people and families of York and Cumberland Counties with a full range of hospice services - including the area's first inpatient hospice facility and comprehensive home-based hospice services.

    Directions:
     From North of Scarborough: Take I-295 South to Exit 2 Scarborough/Old Orchard. Proceed 2 miles to the end, where the road joins Route 1. Continue on Route 1 through 2 lights (approximately ½ mile). Office will be on the left. From the Maine Turnpike, North or South: Take Exit 45. After the toll booth, continue approximately 7/10 of a mile to the third exit, Scarborough/Old Orchard. Proceed to the end, where the road joins Route 1. Continue on Route 1 through 2 lights (approximately ½ mile). Office will be on the left. From South of Scarborough: Take Route 1 to the Scarborough town line and continue approximately 7 ½ miles. Office will be on the right.
